Judith Siegel Lief

Senior Vice President, Associate Broker

The West Village seemed pretty perfect to Judith, just two years a New Yorker and just married, as well. But her new husband was working on a feature film in something called “brownstone Brooklyn,” and she reluctantly agreed to take a look. Love at first sight, yes. More bang for your buck, definitely. But this was back when the really big question was, “Will our friends ever cross the East River?”

Needless to say, they did. They came to visit, and many others came to buy, for the same reasons that made Judith such a passionate advocate for Brooklyn—and would inspire her work in real estate. But that would come later.

Judith joined the art department at Old House Journal Magazine (serendipitously, just a few blocks from home), which set her on a course of marrying her love of graphics and design with her strong interest in craftsmanship and construction. As co-founder, art director and editor of the national shelter magazines, Traditional Building and Period Homes, Judith helped to create a groundbreaking forum for architects and artisans in a career that would span almost twenty years in architectural publishing.

With the magazines successfully afloat, her first child off to college, and her own Park Slope brownstone under renovation, Judith segued into real estate sales. Her extensive knowledge of restoration dovetailed with the process of buying and selling property in this historic neighborhood, which she believes offers daily proof that preservation is the best form of green building. Her management experience proved to be invaluable in orchestrating the complexities of a real estate transaction.

Her warmth and responsiveness—her clients know they never have long to wait for a return call or email—has made Judith a top broker. Her interest goes well beyond “the deal”—not just seeing transactions through to closing but also ensuring that all of the parties involved get her utmost attention.

That dedication, and her commitment to her family, make for a very busy schedule; despite that, Judith finds the time to serve on the executive boards of the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation and the Park Slope Civic Council, two organizations about which she is passionate.
