As the saying goes, “There’s no place like…Brooklyn!” Former Long Islander, Manhattanite, and life-long world traveler, Margaret Laurens knew she’d found her forever home while sitting on a park bench one sunny day in Prospect Park. She’s a longtime Brooklyn resident who considers this town the equal of any of the major cities of the world, with its unbeatable combination of civic majesty—the Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Museum, Grand Army Plaza, The Brooklyn Academy of Music—along with its unique blend of exhilarating creativity and intimate and congenial community life.

After criss-crossing the globe as Vice-President, Director of Sales and Marketing for Penguin Putnam’s International Division, Margaret traded in her jet-setting life to raise her two sons in the best city in the world.

Invited to join a parent coalition and the PTA at PS 107, she helped establish the school library, initiated the theater program, and co-founded and edited the PS 107 newsletter. She’s proud that it’s now considered one of the most highly regarded public schools in Park Slope.

With her cosmopolitan European and Asian heritage, Margaret relates easily to the kaleidoscopic mix of Brooklyn’s established residents and newest immigrants. She brings her many skills to the adventure of connecting people with their new homes and is experienced in all aspects of real estate. She was a renter in Carroll Gardens and a co-op owner at the historic Ansonia Court Warehouse. Currently, she enjoys the challenges of home-owning and renovating as the landlord of a multi-family Park Slope brownstone.

In keeping with her publishing background, Margaret maintains an active interest in books about local history and the design of the Brooklyn brownstone. She’s also committed to grassroots politics, as an active campaigner and volunteer for then-Councilmember Bill de Blasio (now New York City’s Public Advocate).

Margaret is the proud parent of Alexander, 13, and Ethan, 11. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner, Annie, a professor at New York University.
