Celebrate Brooklyn!
written by Warren Lewis
Warren Lewis Realty LLC is honored to sponsor the July 28th performance by the Mark Morris Dance Group at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Seating opens at 7:00 pm and the performance will begin at 8:00 pm.
Together with the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir, the Dance Group will be performing Resurrection (2002), Lucky Charms (1994) and Gloria (1981). The performance is part of the 2011 Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival
In past years, Warren Lewis Realty LLC proudly sponsored Wynton Marsalis, Bill T. Jones, Buckwheat Zydeco and The Neville Brothers. With this year’s sponsorship of the Mark Morris Dance Group, Brooklyn will be able to enjoy an evening of Mr. Morris’ unique works.
Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, which runs through August 11th, has hosted more than 2,000 artists and ensembles over its thirty-three year history. All performances are still free for the approximately 250,000 festival attendees from across New York City.
Performances take place at the historic Prospect Park Bandshell (just inside the Park's Ninth Street entrance).
Built just after the Civil War, Prospect Park did not get a bandshell until 1939. In 1983, the bandshell was renovated, and since then, Celebrate Brooklyn! has taken full advantage of the venue by presenting Music, Film, Theatre and Dance. Over the years, the festival has hosted They Might Be Giants, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Philip Glass and the Kronos Quartet, Eric Bogosian’s Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll, Savion Glover and, of course, the Mark Morris Dance Group.
2011 is the thirtieth anniversary of the Dance Group, and while the company has toured widely, they are now based in Brooklyn on Lafayette Avenue, just across the street from the Brooklyn Academy of Music. This makes them our neighbors. Mark Morris, the founder of the Dance Group, is a former MacArthur Foundation fellow, and has created more than 120 works for his company.
Having this performance in our own unique backyard, Prospect Park, will make the evening that much more special.
So please come join us on the evening of July 28th, as Warren Lewis Realty LLC welcomes the Mark Morris Dance Group to the Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival.
