Kew Gardens Restaurants
written by Warren Lewis Realty Team
Paul Simon fans might recognize scenes from his songs if they are residents of Kew Gardens. The larger area of Queens known as Kew Gardens Hills has been home to Simon, as well as his early musical companion Art Garfunkel, and other notable residents, such as Bob Dylan and Michael Landon. With so many famous residents from the past and in the present, it is no surprise that Kew Gardens Restaurants are well known throughout the Big City.
Like the famous residents of Kew Gardens, its restaurants develop cult-like followings. One example is Mr. Wonton, Inc. Formerly The Golden Phoenix, Mr. Wonton serves Chinese and Mexican food. Fans of the restaurant rave about the chicken quesadilla. A major reason for going to Mr. Wonton is the prices. The college crowd is especially drawn to the low prices and the large portions, but anybody will love the food, and are likely to join the cult following after sampling the menu.
At Main Street Bagels, a similar following of diners can be found. At first glance, this little “bagelry” doesn’t seem too impressive; after all, what is so different from one bagel to the next? For locals, and those living near Kew Gardens restaurants, the answer is obvious. First, and foremost, within three visits, someone at Main Street Bagels will know your name. Like Cheers on steroids, these bagel-makers care about making the customer feel appreciated. To top off the experience, there is the delightfully baked bagel itself. Firm and perfectly browned on the outside, pillowy soft and flavorful inside, eating a Main Street Bagel is akin to watching a Harrison Ford movie: there is always something soft and tender at the heart of a crispy-shelled treat.
