Park Slope Farmers’ Market

Brooklyn is the place to live if you are looking to be a patron of a farmers' market. The tradition of a collection of street vendors selling produce to local residents has long been a fixture in New York City. One of the most prominent of these markets is the Park Slope Farmers' Market. It was established in 2004 and has been gaining acclaim since its opening. The Park Slope Farmers' Market isn't your typical farmers' market; it sells much more than produce. Here you can find the produce you love, as well as flowers, homemade soaps, wine, cheese, baked goods and even fish.

One of the best things about the Park Slope Farmers' Market is the vendors' penchant for giving out samples, so you can enjoy an afternoon snack as you peruse. Some of the more popular vendors are Raaka Chocolate and Jersey Farm Produce. This farmers' market is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM every Sunday, rain or shine with the exception of holidays. Located on 5th Avenue and 4th Street in front of PS 51, this is not a market to miss. Keep in mind that this is a cash-only smorgasbord, so you may want to stop by the ATM on your way.

Directions:

To get to the Park Slope Farmer's Market by subway, take the R or F trains to the 4th Avenue and 9th Street stops. The market is located at JJ Bryne Park on 5th Avenue and 4th Street.

Another nearby farmers’ market includes the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket, frequented by Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and Lefferts Gardens residents. The Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket is located at the northwest tip of Prospect Park, near Flatbush Avenue, and is open every Saturday, year-round, from 8am—4pm. Featuring a wide array of organic fruits and vegetables, cheeses, bread, and fresh fish, Grand Army Plaza also hosts cooking demonstrations and recycling programs. Food stamps, debit, and credit cards are accepted but be warned: debit/credit are only accepted up until 3pm.

Brooklyn is home to several markets and shopping experiences. The Park Slope Farmers' Market is the epitome of the Brooklyn shopping experience, combining an eclectic taste in food with an eco-friendly way of living. Protecting the Earth has never been so scrumptious or so much fun.
