Things to Do in Park Slope

Park Slope is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Brooklyn, home to many historic buildings and the legendary Prospect Park. A mecca for great restaurants, entertainment and community gardens, this neighborhood bursts with things to do—much like the rest of Brooklyn. For a distinctly Brooklyn experience, check out one of the following local hot spots. These are just a few of the things to do in Park Slope.

Puppetworks (338 Sixth Ave.): In this playhouse, the tradition of nineteenth-century European puppetry finds its home in Brooklyn. Since 1980, they have performed tales from classic folk stories, fairy tales and children's literature, performing exclusively for school groups during the week, but hosting free public shows during the weekend. Be sure to show up early; tickets sell out fast.

Brooklyn Public Library (10 Grand Army Plaza): The Brooklyn Public Library is not your typical library. Beautifully designed to resemble an open book, and considered one of the most spectacular and spacious Art Deco buildings in the country the Library offers a thorough selection of materials from best sellers to historical archived material, and has a cafeteria as well. It is a relaxing grand place to spend a lazy afternoon. Make sure to browse the rotating exhibits of local artists hosted by the Library.

Prospect Park (Flatbush Ave. at Eastern Parkway): Designed by the famous architects of Central Park, there are adventures around every tree in Prospect Park. In addition to exploring the vast grounds, Prospect Park is home to the Prospect Park Zoo, the Prospect Park Audubon Center, a carousel, the Lefferts Historic House, seven ball fields and a Quaker cemetery dating back to 1820. Sledding and ice-skating in the Park are some of the locals' favorite things to do in Park Slope when the snow starts to fall. Prospect Park is also one of the locations of the Battle of Brooklyn, offering some nice historical insight into early New York.

Whether you are living in Park Slope, relocating or just visiting for the afternoon, the activities and venues above are sure to create lasting memories. These are the types of places to explore and ignite your inner adventurer.
