Things to do in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
written by Warren Lewis Team
When living in New York, the possibilities for weekend recreation are endless. There is so much to do within the city limits that planning much of anything can seem absolutely mind-boggling. Why else is New York one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United States? In Brooklyn alone, the options are countless. The number of things to do in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is no different. Listed below are three unique experiences you can enjoy in the borough.
Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn, NY): This isn't your typical bowling experience. Brooklyn Bowl is a state-of-the-art facility with 16 bowling lanes, comfortable leather sofas, food by Blue Ribbon (with other locations in Manhattan and Park Slope), wait staff, live music, and L.E.E.D. (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. This venue is 21 and over with the exception of Saturday and Sunday afternoons (which are reserved for all-ages family bowling). No matter the size or age of your group, there is a lane open for you.
McCarren Park (N. 12 Street, Lorimer St., Manhattan Ave between Bayard St. and Berry St.): One of New York's historical parks, McCarren Park was originally named Greenpoint Park but was renamed in 1909 after a famous Irish immigrant who became a powerful member of the NY Senate. Home to the McCarren Park Pool, a newly renovated track, plenty of space to roam and a music venue, this park is a great location for a stroll, as well as a host to several events each year—it’s a local favorite.
Williamsburg Bridge: Finished in 1903, the Williamsburg Bridge was once the world’s longest suspension bridge, stretching 1600 feet across the East River (the total length is 7308 feet). The Williamsburg Bridge stole that title from the Brooklyn Bridge (spanning 1595 feet, 6 inches), but ceded the record to the Bear Mountain Bridge over the Hudson River in New York State. The bridge, still a main thoroughfare, connects the Manhattan and Brooklyn boroughs, and hosts a bicycle path and a walkway for pedestrians.
The things to do in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, are countless. From bicycling across a piece of Brooklyn’s history to a stroll in the city park, having a uniquely Brooklyn experience will be easy if you make a trek to the above locations. Whether you are relocating to Brooklyn, visiting or just looking to explore your neighborhood, these spots are sure to become some of your favorites.
